Uptown Grocer in the Commercial Appeal

June 10th, 2011

Today we were featured in the Commercial Appeal's Go Memphis insert. The article, Takeout is the way to go during summer, is on the Go Memphis site now!

From the article:

When it's still 95 degrees when you get home from work, who wants to cook? Heat waves, also known locally as "summer," call for cool, easy eats and good takeout.

And sure, most any restaurant will pack an order to go, but there are places in town that cater specifically to folks who want homestyle cooking of restaurant quality in the comfort of their own home. Here are some shops where you can just pop in and pick up a quick meal that requires nothing more than a few minutes in the microwave or a reheat in the oven. And you've got a meal for your table, just like that.

Be sure to check out the websites for full menus and to sign up for weekly e-mails. You can even prepurchase and get your food delivered from some of the places

The Uptown Grocer (901-219-8475, theuptowngrocer.com) sells from both the Memphis Botanic Garden farmers market on Wednesday afternoons and the Memphis Farmers Market on Saturday mornings, but it also has a freezer at Palladio, 2169 Central, and plans to have them soon at Capelli hair salon (4615 Poplar, Suite 7) and Bluff City Coffee (505 S. Main).

Owner Jennifer McCullough also prepares a rotating menu of fresh items each week and will deliver.

Meat loaf, which serves four, is $16. Chicken enchiladas come in two sizes for $18 and $25. McCullough also offers a line of dips and spreads and à la carte items, and she's adding different salads each week through the summer.
